3D Design

*Also known as Ceramics

Beginning 3D Design: Foundation course involving basic clay building processes with emphasis on 3D design on both paper and in clay, construction and glazing techniqes, Art theories as well as design principles will be explored for more effective results. You will hand build a box, a mug and larger vessels. All work will be glazed. This course provides a solid introduction to clay and 3D design principles to enable you to determine if you should continue in this course of study.

~20$ lab fee per trimester needs to be paid within first 10 days of class

Advanced 3D Design A: Building on the basic knowledge gained in beginning 3D design, you will work on projects you design yourself. Explore concepts enabling you to effectivly design three dimensional objects. Emphasis is on using different clay bodies, hand building, throwing on the wheel, glazing and making several large ceramic objects. An independent research project is part of the course. Finished pieces may be glazed or finished with a variety of methods. If you show interest and aptitude in the 3D design, you may choose to continue in your senior year in the 3D design technology program or Advanced 3D design B in 11th or 12th grade. Strongly recommended completion of previous trimester with "B" or better to continue to next trimester.

Prerequisite: Beginning 3D design

~25$ lab fee per trimester needs to be paid within first 10 days of class

Advanced 3D Design B: This course is designed to give the student further knowledge of clay fabrication, throwing, and glazing techniques along with diversified clay bodies and properties, advance glazing techniques and surface decoration. Attention to design, execution, size and presentation is stressed. Student's personal directions are formed. A clear pathway is formed regarding profession, performance, skill and deadlines.

 Prerequisite: Beginning 3D design & Advanced 3D design A

~25$ lab fee per trimester needs to be paid within first 10 days of class

3D Design Technology: The intention of this course is to provide you with skills necessary to start a small 3D design business, go on to major in 3D design in college, or gain an entry level job in 3D design fields. This is a year long professional studio ceramics course with emphasis on production techniques. You will  learn casting and plaster mold making to produce production ceramics (3D design) products. Gain mastery in throwing on the wheel, glazing, patinas, firing, kiln loading, clay bodies, and hand building. When you complete the year long course, you will have produced a portfolio and present your work at the end of the year in a portfolio exhibition. This class gives you an opportunity to decide if 3D design is a career choice for you. Strongly recommended completion of previous trimester with "C" or better to continue to next trimester, Course is a single trimester class that can be repeated.
