Construction Technology

 

Wood and Construction Technology: Learn how to safely use tools commonly found in a wood shop. Safety, knowledge of building materials, joinery, measurment and caluclations are a few of the areas investigated during this course. Introduction to AutoCAD software and other basic computer skills will be integrated into this course. (students who have taken advanced woods in junior high with a "B" or better and have teacher approval may  waive this class and take residential cabinent making)

 

~20$ lab fee due within the first 10 days of class.

 


 

Building Construction Technology: This course will be offered only once for the entire year and is designed for practical approach to teaching many of the building trades. The course may be located at a local building site off-campus. You will be involved in construction of a home from beginning to end. Learn all phases of construction including framing, siding, roofing, installation of doors/windows, electrical, and plumbing. Read blueprints and create and modify AutoCAD drawings.Consider this class only if you have the following characteristics: punctuality, work ethic, loyalty, teamwork, honesty, and a willingness to learn.

 

Prerequisite: Wood and Construction Technology and teacher approval.

 


 

Construction Related Technology: Offered spring trimester only. This class will be a continuation of the building construction technology class. In addition to the many building trades acquired, the spring trimester class will concentrate on concrete and formwork. Resume writing and job interviewing skills will prepare you to get the contruction job you want.

 

Prerequisite: Wood and Construction Technology & Building and Construction Technology.

 


 

Residential Cabinentmaking:  Learn how to safely use tools commonly found in a wood shop. You will learn basic kitchen layout, cabinet construction, door and drawer construction types and tolerances, hardware, finish techniques and types, and cabinet installation. Create cabinets and learn layout software too!

 

Prerequisite: Wood and construction Technology

~25$ lab fee due within the first 10 days of class.

 


 

Building Construction Management: If you would like to lead a crew, complete building construction management to learn foreman building skills. Learn to manage, supervise, and observe beginning students on work-related sites, while stressing on-the-job safety. The work site will lend itself to a practical working condition that will allow you to develop management skills.

 


Boatbuilding: This is a year long course. You will further develop your skills using tools common to the shop as well as those specific to the boat-building trade. you'll learn boatbuilding terms, layout moldmaking, joinery, and boatbuilding methods, including cedar-strip stich "N" glue and planking. You will start in fall trimester building a small scale model to learn boat structure. In the latter trimesters you will move on to building full-size projects, usually in groups. You may or may not leave class with your own full-sized boat, but you will leave with the skills learned in being a part of building one.

 

Prerequisite: Wood and Contruction Technology and teacher approval.

~25$ lab fee for fall trimester, winter and spring trimester fee depends on supplies needed for final project.
